Arcadia - Glencoe Volunteer Fire Department
Responsibilities
The purpose of the A-G Fire Department is to protect and preserve life and property in the City of Arcadia and surrounding towns and to promote the prevention of fires and other emergencies through fire safety education.
For Emergency Dial 911
Fire Chief - Tyler Pientok
Membership on the all-volunteer fire department is currently limited to 30. There currently isn’t room or PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) for more members and there is currently a waiting list to get on the department. These volunteers are sent to school and are trained and ready so when replacements are needed they are ready.
Members come from all walks in the community − City Council members, Street Department employees, Ashley employees, Pilgrim employees. They understand what volunteerism is all about. They get it. They just love to come here and give their time and work for the community to give back. Local businesses understand that also. There is never a problem getting enough guys to come to a call.
The department’s operations are overseen by an eight-member Fire Board. Its membership consists of three representatives from the City of Arcadia, three from the Town of Arcadia and two from the Town of Glencoe. They meet four to five times a year to discuss department needs and operations. Budget contributions are based on equalized assessed value.
The department augments what it gets from the three municipalities through fundraising. The department’s big event of the year is the annual chicken barbecue and brat fry held on Palm Sunday. The department also holds a spring dance and raffle.
The department’s history is prominently displayed in Memorial Park, where a building with windows on three sides displays the department’s first motorized engine as well as photos of significant blazes over the years and group photos of department members throughout the years.(Excerpts taken from Wisconsin Fire Journal Sept/Oct 2016)
