Prescriptions/Non Prescription Drugs

Prescription Drug take back Program:

The City of Arcadia Police Department periodically hosts prescription drug take back day annually in October. You can check our Face Book page for the next scheduled Take Back Day. We will help you dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription or over the counter drugs. All you have to do is just come to the police department’s garage and we will take care of the rest. Please DO NOT bring any kind of liquids to the drop off. All drops offs with be anonymous and all information will be destroyed. We are asking for you to please start looking through your medicine cabinet and checking expiration dates and unwanted drugs.

What to bring and what not to bring:

Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, non-aerosol sprays, creams, Sharps and pet medications.

Do Not Bring:
Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, inhalers, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), mercury thermometers, personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, etc...), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas).

Our Goal:
To protect the safety of our community and to keep it healthy, and by dropping off your unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs will help with this goal. Also, Getting rid of any old or unwanted medication will keep your home safe from accidental use or thief.

Benefits:
The benefits off dropping your unwanted or prescription drugs off will help stop children from accidentally taking the pills. Insures unwanted drugs falling into the wrong hands. Stops the medicine from being flushed into the water system to keep our wonderful water clean. Also, stops someone from getting your information off your prescription bottles.

If you can’t make it to the drop off:

You may contact the Arcadia Police Department and set up a time to drop them off for disposal. 

There are others ways to dispose of medicines if you can’t make it to the drop off day. Here are some ways: dispose of the unwanted drugs into the trash, grinding the medicine up and placing into coffee grounds or kitty litter, or placing them into a little bit of water or alcohol to dissolve the drug to make it inactive then throwing the medicine into the trash.
